Oregon’s psilocybin program shows both promise and growing pains

Oregon’s first-in-the-nation adult psilocybin services program offers lessons about access, cost, training, and safety.

Oregon began accepting psilocybin service licensure applications in 2023 and service centers opened to clients later that year. The model is not the same as a casual retreat: it is a regulated service-center framework with licensed facilitators.

Recent coverage has also highlighted business challenges, high costs, and service-center closures. That matters for clients because legal access does not automatically mean affordable access.
